00:00:03:19 - 00:00:33:00 Unknown Getting started with a canon T5, II with Kayley helped install production, training and support. Table of contents. Chapter one reviewing the equipment. The T5, ii DSLR Kit bundle two. Audio equipment three. Powering up the T5, II, and chapter four Formatting the Camera. Chapter one reviewing the equipment. The T5 ii DSLR Kit bundle. Hi I'm Kelly. In this tutorial you will learn the basics of what you need to get started with photography and video on the canon t5 II. 00:00:33:02 - 00:00:55:01 Unknown Let's start with looking at your equipment. When you book out the T5 ii DSLR Kit bundle from the EDC, you will receive this camera bag. Inside of that is your canon T5 II camera, two batteries, and a battery charger. SD cards are not provided by the EDC, so make sure you either bring an empty SD card or one that does not have any important files on it. 00:00:55:03 - 00:01:17:13 Unknown Later in this tutorial, we will format your SD card which will delete all of the data on it. Make sure you have your files backed up or have an empty SD card with you. The canon t5 II supports standard SD, SDHC, and SD memory cards. It is recommended that you use a card between 64 and 128GB. Chapter two Audio Equipment. 00:01:17:15 - 00:01:35:23 Unknown If you will be recording audio with video, you will also need to include a mic as well as a 3.5mm to three pin audio cable adapter. The type of microphone you choose depends on the type of audio that you're hoping to record. A handheld SM 58 Mike, for example, is great for when you're subject to speaking directly into the mic. 00:01:36:01 - 00:01:53:13 Unknown A shotgun mic is useful for capturing focused audio from a specific subject. A shotgun mic is usually mounted on a boom pole or a camera mount, so if you're looking at a shotgun mic, make sure that you also book a camera mount to go with that. Lastly, this 3.5mm to three pin cable adapter is what's going to connect the mic to your camera. 00:01:53:18 - 00:02:12:04 Unknown And so if you need more distance between your mic and the camera, make sure that you also include a three pin XLR cable in your booking. And this will just act as an extended between your camera and the mic. Chapter three powering up the t5 II. Before turning the camera on, we will insert your SD card and of course your camera battery. 00:02:12:06 - 00:02:31:20 Unknown On the right side of the camera is a spring loaded SD card slot. Open the SD card door by sliding it toward you, and insert your SD card with the gold pins facing the lens. Push down until your card clicks in place to remove your card. Gently push on it and it will spring back out. The battery door is on the bottom of your camera. 00:02:31:22 - 00:02:55:19 Unknown The arrow on the battery tells us which direction to insert it in, with the arrow pointing into the camera and facing you or the back of the camera. Push the gray latch aside and insert the battery. The latch will spring back and click. Once your battery is in place, you are now ready to turn your camera on. First, open the camera's LCD touch screen, rotate it 180 degrees counterclockwise and bring it safely back in on the top right side of your camera. 00:02:55:20 - 00:03:16:23 Unknown Set the switch from off to the on position. The T5 I also includes a third position represented by a video camera icon. This mode is for shooting video. For now, we will stay in the on position. Finally, turn the dial on the top right of your camera to M. Your camera is now in manual mode. Chapter four Formatting the Camera. 00:03:17:01 - 00:03:43:00 Unknown We will now format your SD card and factory reset the camera to remove any settings that previous operators may have adjusted. Again, a reminder that formatting your SD card will delete all of its data. So make sure that your files are backed up or you come with an empty SD card to format your card. Start by pushing the menu button on the top left corner of the back of your camera to navigate in the menu, you may either use the touch screen or these four arrows in the center select button. 00:03:43:02 - 00:03:56:15 Unknown Once in menu, you will notice camera playback and wrench icons. The wrench icons are configuration settings. On the first configuration settings page, select Format Card okay. 00:03:56:17 - 00:04:23:22 Unknown On the second configuration settings page, you can set your date and time to factory reset your camera. Go to the fourth Configuration Settings page, select Clear Settings. Clear all camera settings okay, this will not reset your date and time, but ensures that all camera settings are now in their default state. Lastly, return to the second Configuration Settings page and feel free to adjust for auto power off setting for this tutorial, I will disable it.
