Adding guides. To add guides to artboards, we first have to turn on the rulers, which by default are hidden. Go to view rulers and select show rulers. You can also press the R key on your keyboard. Now I can click and hold on the rulers and add vertical and horizontal guides. When you add guides, they'll go across the entire paceboard. If you want to add guides to just specific artboards, click the artboard tool in the left panel, then select the artboard you want to add guides to and drag the guides into place. This is really useful if you have a lot of guides and you find they're cluttering up other artboards. You can move the guides by selecting them, and holding down shift allows you to select multiple guides. When you click and drag to select multiple objects, you'll notice that both the guides and the objects are selected. This is different from Inesign. In Inesign, if you select all the objects on the page, the guides won't be selected, but in Illustrator, they will. If you want to prevent this from happening, you can lock the guides by going to view, guides, and lock guides. Now, I can move things around without having to worry about moving the guides as well. You may also want to hide the guides in order to preview your designs. To do this, go to view, guides, and hide guides.
