Setting up your artboard and workspace. Let's open Illustrator. Once the Illustrator welcome window opens, click new file. A new document popup window will appear. From this window, you have the option to create a blank document. Or if you click through the tabs, you can choose from pre-made templates. For the purpose of this video, we're going to create a blank document. Now in the Inesign module, we created a print document. So I'm going to choose print in Illustrator as well. This is because I'm creating graphics that I'll import into my Inesign file. So I want the color modes of both the Illustrator and Inesign files to match. I'm going to change the unit of measurement to inches so that it's something I'm familiar with. And I can also choose between portrait or landscape. Click create. With Illustrator open, you'll notice that the interface is similar to Inesign. The main difference is that instead of pages, we have what's called an artboard. Right now, I only have one, but I can add new artboards using the artboard tool, which you can find over in the left toolbox. The arrangement of the artboards on the screen is free form, meaning you can place them anywhere you want and rearrange them. This is different from Inesign where the pages are sequential. You can also size artboards individually so each one can be its own separate size. For example, if you were creating social media graphics, you could have artboards that are sized for the different platform requirements. Over on the right side is the artboards panel. And here you can change the names of all of your artboards. Just like in Inesign, I can change how the workspace is arranged. I suggest that you choose from one of the preset workspaces by going to window workspace and selecting automation.
