00;00;04;20 - 00;00;07;20 Working with text, 00;00;07;28 - 00;00;10;28 adding text to your document. 00;00;11;04 - 00;00;13;13 Let's add some text to our document. 00;00;13;13 - 00;00;18;13 I'm going to select the type tool and then click and drag to add a box. 00;00;18;24 - 00;00;20;11 Then I'll add a title. 00;00;20;11 - 00;00;23;01 I'd also like to add some paragraph text. 00;00;23;01 - 00;00;26;07 don't have anything written yet, so I'm going to hit enter. 00;00;26;14 - 00;00;30;09 then I'm going to come up to the top menu bar and select type. 00;00;30;28 - 00;00;33;19 If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list, 00;00;33;19 - 00;00;36;20 you'll see something that says fill with placeholder text. 00;00;36;25 - 00;00;37;27 I'll click on that. 00;00;37;27 - 00;00;42;09 And you'll see the text box, then fills with what's referred to as ipsum. 00;00;42;09 - 00;00;46;08 this is a passage of Latin text that's designed to mimic English. 00;00;46;08 - 00;00;47;12 It's a useful tool 00;00;47;12 - 00;00;50;29 for developing templated layouts if you don't have any text written yet. 00;00;51;02 - 00;00;51;26 I'm going to zoom in 00;00;51;26 - 00;00;56;26 just a little bit by holding down Control Plus or Command Plus on a mac. 00;00;59;09 - 00;01;01;22 now, if I come over to the character panel, 00;01;01;22 - 00;01;05;24 I can change the typeface, But you'll see nothing happens. 00;01;06;07 - 00;01;09;05 This is because I don't have any of the text selected. 00;01;09;05 - 00;01;14;15 So I can do one of two things I can click and drag to highlight the text. 00;01;14;27 - 00;01;19;16 Or I can select the entire text box by clicking on the arrow. 00;01;19;27 - 00;01;23;08 And you'll know what's selected because you'll see the handles around it. 00;01;23;15 - 00;01;28;03 now, whatever typeface I choose will be applied to the entire box. 00;01;28;11 - 00;01;29;03 As I scroll 00;01;29;03 - 00;01;32;21 through the list of different typefaces, you can see that it's changing. 00;01;33;02 - 00;01;36;02 Creating paragraph and character styles. 00;01;36;17 - 00;01;39;02 So if I want to make the heading a different typeface 00;01;39;02 - 00;01;42;20 than the body text, I can double click on the text box. 00;01;42;24 - 00;01;44;00 and now with the text tool 00;01;44;00 - 00;01;47;13 selected again, I can click and highlight just the title. 00;01;47;23 - 00;01;49;05 With the heading selected. 00;01;49;05 - 00;01;51;29 I'm going to go over to Paragraph Styles. 00;01;51;29 - 00;01;55;14 I'll click on the plus sign to add a new paragraph style. 00;01;56;03 - 00;01;57;13 At the bottom of the panel. 00;01;57;13 - 00;02;00;13 A new style will appear with a default name. 00;02;00;13 - 00;02;03;29 I'm going to double click on to rename It's best to use 00;02;03;29 - 00;02;07;19 a descriptive title that includes some of the attributes of the style. 00;02;08;01 - 00;02;11;11 Next I'm going to create a character style to be applied 00;02;11;11 - 00;02;14;12 to bold certain words within my paragraph. 00;02;14;12 - 00;02;17;12 I'm going to choose a word that I want to bold. 00;02;17;21 - 00;02;20;12 Then I'll go to the character panel. 00;02;20;12 - 00;02;22;20 To change the font weight. 00;02;22;20 - 00;02;25;02 From the dropdown menu I'll look for bold. 00;02;25;02 - 00;02;30;13 Unfortunately, this font doesn't have it, so we're going to quickly select 00;02;30;13 - 00;02;34;04 all of our font again and we'll choose a different font. 00;02;34;10 - 00;02;37;10 Let's go with something I know will have it. 00;02;37;20 - 00;02;40;06 Okay we've selected Ariel. 00;02;40;06 - 00;02;44;13 I'll select a word and I'm going to choose bold. 00;02;45;07 - 00;02;49;01 Now with my words still highlighted I'm going to go to the Character 00;02;49;01 - 00;02;53;08 Styles panel, and I'll click the plus sign to create a new style. 00;02;53;10 - 00;02;57;03 Again it's given a default name, so I will double click. 00;02;57;08 - 00;03;01;29 To rename Now that I have these styles, I can quickly select 00;03;01;29 - 00;03;05;06 anything else in the text and apply the style to it. 00;03;05;27 - 00;03;08;12 Working with Overset text. 00;03;08;12 - 00;03;11;17 After changing the styles, you may have noticed 00;03;11;17 - 00;03;15;13 that there is a tiny red box in the corner here. 00;03;16;13 - 00;03;17;12 That if I come 00;03;17;12 - 00;03;21;03 and click on my selection tool highlights a little bit better. 00;03;21;05 - 00;03;25;04 This means that the text is too big for the text box and it's getting cut off. 00;03;25;08 - 00;03;26;14 When this happens, 00;03;26;14 - 00;03;30;12 you might also notice an error message down in the bottom toolbar. 00;03;30;15 - 00;03;34;05 If I click on the arrow next to the error message, 00;03;34;18 - 00;03;38;04 a menu appears and I can load the preflight panel. 00;03;38;07 - 00;03;41;12 I'm going to dock this over in my panels, 00;03;42;06 - 00;03;44;26 and we'll see that there is an error with the text. 00;03;44;26 - 00;03;48;27 We can expand these to show exactly where that error appears. 00;03;48;27 - 00;03;51;15 So it says our text frame has one error. 00;03;51;15 - 00;03;56;16 If I click on the error, it brings me to the exact point where it appears. 00;03;56;16 - 00;04;01;18 So again it's showing me this overset text marker with the extra text. 00;04;01;18 - 00;04;07;03 If I click on the red plus sign, it then loads my cursor with the additional text. 00;04;07;07 - 00;04;12;02 I could choose to click and place this somewhere else on my document, 00;04;12;02 - 00;04;16;04 and it will take the remaining text and put it in its own text box. 00;04;16;10 - 00;04;19;25 You could then move this around and line it up 00;04;19;25 - 00;04;23;09 where you need to, because this is just placeholder text. 00;04;23;10 - 00;04;25;03 It actually doesn't matter in this case. 00;04;25;03 - 00;04;26;28 And I'm just going to hit delete.
