Digital Printing Facility

IMA 230

The Digital Printing Facility contains both the self-serve facility as well as a full service printing bureau.

The self-serve printing stations are photographic quality inket printers that can produce prints from 8.5×11” to 13×19”. The facility stocks a variety of photo papers which can be purchased by the student at the time of printing. There are both flatbed (documents and negatives) and Imacon (negatives only) scanners available for student use. These scanners are capable of scanning a variety of formats from 35mm to 8×10. All required film-holders are kept in the facility and will be provided once the student arrives for the scheduled booking.

The full service printing bureau provides photographic quality inkjet prints on a variety of papers in both cut sheet and roll format. For cut sheet, the facility stocks paper in letter, A3 and SuperB sizes. For roll paper, the facility stocks both 24” and 44” wide rolls as well as a 42” wide vinyl. There are sample binders in the facility showing the variety of papers that are stocked. For the full service printing bureau, students do not print for themselves but rather submit their files to the staff at the Digital Printing Facility who will print on their behalf.

The facility also houses mounting equipment. This is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We do have cutting mats, rulers, bone-folders and brayer rollers but students must provide their own cutting tools (box cutter, xacto-blade).

Required Action

All Creative School Programs have access to the full service printing bureau but otherwise, access is dependent upon year and or tutorial completion.  For those students outside of IMA programs, we print for them – they must submit work rather than book a printer.

For access to printers, the students must first receive a tutorial. This tutorial is provided during second year and is a normal part of the curriculum. Once access is granted, students can book a printing station by emailing dpf@torontomu.ca. Once a booking has been made, the students will bring their digital files and print for themselves.

For access to the flatbed scanners, a tutorial will be given during first-year and is a normal part of the curriculum. For the Imacon scanners, access is restricted to second year and above (including grad students). For those wanting access to the Imacon scanners a one-to-one tutorial must be taken with Jane. To receive the tutorial, an email can be sent to dpf@torontomu.ca with the indication that a tutorial is required. The tutorial will take the first 15-20 minutes of the booked session. Once access is granted (whether to the flatbed or Imacon scanners), students can book a scanning station by emailing dpf@torontomu.ca.
